How to Add Building Blocks to a Page

Learn how to add building blocks to new and existing pages in D2L.

To add a Building Block to a page, you need to follow a few steps to ensure that the Course Maker style is correctly applied so that the Building Block will function properly.

If you are starting out with a new page, we recommend using the Blank Page template for ultimate creative freedom, but you can use any of the templates on the Course Maker website to get started. You can also use any existing pages in your D2L course site if they have the Course Maker style applied to them.

This guide assumes that you can load the Starter Kit and add templates to your D2L site. Review the Starter Kit instructions and the Template Guide for more information.

  1. Navigate to the Building Blocks on the Course Maker website.
  2. Select the Building Block that you want to add to your D2L site.
  3. Click on the Apply tab to access the HTML code for the building block.
  4. Click the Copy button to copy the HTML code to your clipboard.
  5. In your D2L course, in the Content area locate the module (or sub module) with the page you want to add the Building Block to.
  6. Click on Edit HTML button to open the D2L HTML editor.
  7. Place the cursor and click to select where you would like to insert the Building Block.
  8. In the toolbar, click Insert Stuff and select Enter Embed Code from the pop up window.
  9. Paste the code from step 4 and click the Next button.
  10.  Click Insert to add the block to the page.

Repeat these steps as necessary to add different building blocks to a page. Click on the Save and Close button to publish your changes when you are done.
