Every course needs an AI policy.
The Course AI Policy page provides students with guidelines for how they can and cannot use AI in your course.
Whether you permit, guide, or restrict student use of generative AI technologies, you should communicate to students what is—and is not—allowed and why. Each instructor at the University of Arizona is responsible for setting course policies around student use of AI.
This page includes an introduction, space to paste your AI policy, and suggestions to support students if they have questions about the policy.
Need help creating your course AI policy? Use the Instructor AI Policy Guide to help you develop an intentional and specific policy.

Assignments and activities in this course are designed to help you learn and develop the knowledge and skills
needed to meet new and challenging situations. Learning isn't only about passing exams or completing
assignments—it's about becoming a thinker who can face the unknown with meaningful knowledge, confidence,
and care. To ensure that artificial intelligence (AI) tools enhance rather than interfere with your
learning, the following AI guidelines are provided for this course.

AI Usage for this Course

#ToDo: INSTRUCTOR: Add your AI policy here to clarify what AI tools are allowed or prohibited in this course.
See the Instructor AI Policy Guide for templates and guidance.

If you are unclear about this course’s AI policy:

Check with your instructor and/or the course syllabus to find out if, when, how, and
why you are permitted–or not–to use AI tools in this course

Assume that tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot, and Claude are not permitted.

Reflect on how and why you want to use AI. What is the purpose of the assignment? What
are you supposed to practice or gain from doing the assignment? Will use of AI get in the way of
practice and learning? What are the ways AI might help you build knowledge and skills?

Acknowledge any use of AI. The point is to be honest and transparent, giving clear
attribution to the ways AI contributed to the work. You can acknowledge use in a note, comment,
citation, cover letter, caption, or description of your work. Specify the name of the AI tool and how
the AI tool was used.

Example acknowledgement: I acknowledge the use of [insert name
of AI system(s)] to
[describe specific use of generative artificial intelligence]. Prompts used included [share link or
copy-and-paste prompt]. See <a href="https://libguides.library.arizona.edu/students-chatgpt/citing"
